Terms of Use of UPI on ZulePay

Last updated: 9 September 2026 · Version: 1.0.0 · Effective date: 9 September 2026

1. About this document

These terms of use ("UPI Terms") govern the Unified Payments Interface ("UPI") services offered through ZulePay — the UPI virtual payment address ("VPA") linked to your wallet, UPI collections, UPI interoperability and UPI payouts. They apply in addition to the General Terms and Conditions ("General Terms"), the Wallet Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Cancellation & Refund Policy. If there is a conflict, the General Terms prevail unless these UPI Terms provide otherwise.

UPI services on ZulePay are provided through our partner bank and payment service providers under the National Payments Corporation of India ("NPCI") UPI framework, applicable RBI directions and the terms of the participating bank. Capitalised terms used but not defined here have the meanings given in the General Terms.

2. The UPI services

  1. Your ZulePay UPI ID (VPA). When you set up your wallet identifiers, a VPA is created and bound to your Main Wallet so that you can receive money from any UPI app (for example, PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm or a bank app).
  2. Loading by UPI. You may load money into your Main Wallet from any UPI app through the payment gateway. UPI loads are currently free for customers.
  3. Sending to any UPI ID. Full-KYC users may send money from their Main Wallet to any external VPA — the recipient does not need ZulePay.
  4. Merchant collections. Merchants accepting payments through ZulePay receive UPI collections into their merchant wallet; these are governed by the Merchant Solutions Terms.
  5. Recurring payments. UPI Autopay mandates are governed by the AutoPay Terms.

3. Your VPA

  1. Your VPA consists of a handle you choose and a domain provisioned for ZulePay by our partner bank or payment service provider. Once set, your VPA cannot be changed.
  2. One VPA is linked to one wallet. A VPA is non-transferable and does not survive closure of your wallet or account.
  3. Always verify the payee name displayed by your UPI app before confirming a payment to any VPA. For merchant VPAs, the business name of the merchant is displayed.

4. Loading money by UPI

  1. When you load by UPI, we create a payment instruction through our payment service provider; the money is credited to your Main Wallet after confirmation by the payment infrastructure.
  2. Loads are subject to your KYC tier limits, wallet balance caps and the limits in the Wallet Terms.
  3. If a load is debited from your bank or UPI app but not confirmed to us, the amount is reconciled and credited or refunded per the Cancellation & Refund Policy. Please contact support with the UPI transaction reference (UTR).

5. Sending money to external UPI IDs

  1. Sending to an external VPA is available to Full-KYC users only and requires your Transaction PIN and/or biometric authentication.
  2. When you confirm a send, your Main Wallet is debited immediately and the payout is transmitted through our payment service provider's UPI payout rail. Payouts may show as processing before completion.
  3. Verify the VPA and the payee name before confirming. A payment to a VPA you entered or selected is treated as discharged when the recipient's bank confirms it, even if you mistyped the VPA or intended someone else.
  4. If a payout fails or is rejected, the amount is automatically returned to your Main Wallet, typically within the timelines in the Cancellation & Refund Policy.

6. Receiving money on your VPA

  1. Any person may send money to your VPA from any UPI app. Credits are posted to your Main Wallet on confirmation by our partner bank or payment service provider, which may take a short time after the payer's app shows success.
  2. The reconciled balance in the app after posting is definitive.
  3. Credits received in error (duplicate, mistaken or unexplained credits) may be reversed in accordance with applicable law and NPCI rules.

7. Transaction limits

  1. UPI transactions are subject to limits prescribed by NPCI and the RBI from time to time (including per-transaction, daily and mandate limits), the limits of your KYC tier, and any risk-based limits we or our partner bank apply and display in the app.
  2. Where the app displays a limit different from these UPI Terms, the RBI/NPCI prescription and the app display prevail.

8. Disputes, chargebacks and erroneous transactions

  1. Check before you confirm. UPI payments to a verified payee are final and irrevocable in the ordinary course. We cannot unilaterally reverse a payment that has been credited to the recipient.
  2. If you did not authorise a transaction, report it immediately through the app or to support@zulepay.com and to your bank, following the unauthorised-transaction framework in Section 25 of the General Terms and the RBI's customer-protection directions.
  3. Disputes with the recipient of a payment (goods not delivered, wrong amount and similar) are between you and the recipient; we will assist with transaction records and, where available, chargeback ("dispute") channels under UPI rules through our partner bank.
  4. Chargebacks, where available under UPI rules, follow NPCI's procedural timelines and our partner bank's dispute process.

9. Security

  1. Your UPI PIN belongs to your bank and UPI app — it is entered into the UPI app's own secure interface. ZulePay never asks for, sees, stores or proxies your UPI PIN. Anyone asking for it is a fraudster.
  2. Wallet debits on ZulePay (including sends to UPI IDs) are authenticated with your ZulePay Transaction PIN and/or biometrics, per the General Terms.
  3. We may decline, pause or hold UPI transactions where required by law, NPCI rules, risk controls or our partner bank.

10. Regulatory notes

  1. UPI services are offered under the RBI's PPI interoperability framework through our partner bank, and are subject to NPCI's UPI procedural guidelines, the participating bank's terms and applicable RBI directions, each as amended from time to time.
  2. Changes required by NPCI, the RBI or our partner bank may take effect from the date prescribed by them, even if before an update to these UPI Terms.
  3. Grievances follow Section 29 of the General Terms (acknowledgement within 48 hours, resolution target 30 days, escalation to the RBI Integrated Ombudsman), and may additionally be raised with your bank under the UPI dispute framework.
